| An update |
So its been almost five months since I've last posted. While I don't know how well this will go, I'm going to attempt to start blogging again. This morning I'll begin with an update on my life.
On May 6, I graduated from Southern with a BS in Mass Communication-PR, and a nonprofit leadership minor. That same day I moved to Florida without a job and without being able to move into my new residence. Thankfully I did have a place to stay while the job-hunt began. First on my list was finding a part-time job until I found something permanent. By the end of May I was working as a cashier at Office Depot.
It seemed as much as I tried to make a list of nonprofits in the area I wanted to get in touch with about a job, I just couldn't motivate myself to do so. The thought of sitting behind a desk in an office of catty girls (like my internship last summer) made me sick.
One afternoon as I was talking with my boyfriend's mom about her suggestion of substitute teaching to supplement my part-time income from Office Depot, she also mentioned that in Florida, with a Bachelors degree you can transition into teaching. Here began my confusing and expensive quest into the world of Florida teachers' certification.
After passing the subject area exam for elementary K-6, I sent off my transcripts and application for temporary certification to the Florida Department of Education.
Last week, after cutting back at Office Depot to every other Sunday, I began substitute teaching. While not knowing exactly when you'll have work is stressful, I'm trying as hard as I can to remember all the times God has provided for my needs. Thankfully my friends from Church provide a tremendous amount of support and prayers, but more on church life another day... I can't write about everything all at once if I plan on making blogging a habit again. |

I'm finally a college graduate who's now going in a direction different than my degree. Its stressful at times, but completely worth it.
